The Claude maker's IPO paperwork now includes the quarter investors were waiting for. Anthropic amended S-1 filings lodged Monday replace the half-year snapshot with third-quarter numbers that show explosive revenue, heavy GAAP losses and compute commitments on a scale rarely seen even among hyperscalers.

What happened

CNBC reported that revenue for the nine months ended September 30 reached $33.24 billion, up roughly 1,200% from a year earlier, while the nine-month net loss was $104 billion, driven largely by fair-value changes on convertible notes and derivatives. Third-quarter revenue was about $17 billion, up roughly 1,127% year over year and about 47% from the prior quarter, with a quarterly net loss of $23.29 billion.

StockAnalysis, working from the same amendment, put Q3 revenue at $16.96 billion, versus $1.38 billion a year earlier, and said operating income swung to a $567 million loss from $974 million of operating income in the second quarter. Adjusted operating income rose to $2.5 billion from $2.2 billion, while the adjusted operating margin eased to 15% from 19%.

The cost side is dominated by compute. CNBC said the amended prospectus cites purchase commitments and lease agreements with aggregate committed spend of about $895.4 billion. StockAnalysis attributed the operating-loss swing partly to $5.0 billion of compute bought under short-term commitments that "currently costs significantly more" than multi-year contracts, plus $2.0 billion of non-cash charges from an employee donation-matching program. Cash was $95.6 billion with $36.3 billion of short-term investments at September 30.

Why it matters

Anthropic amended S-1 numbers will set the tone for the roadshow. Revenue near $17 billion in a single quarter puts the company in rarefied corporate company, yet the GAAP loss and commitment stack show how much of that growth is prepaid in chips and cloud capacity.

Investors already know the fundraising backdrop is selective. Our report on the OpenAI funding cut showed even category leaders reshaping rounds as valuations swell; Anthropic's disclosure makes the CapEx intensity of frontier models impossible to ignore.

Competition is product as well as capital. DeepSeek's open-source coding push, covered in our DeepSeek Super-agent prototype story, aims directly at Claude Code just as Anthropic is asking public-market investors to underwrite its spend.

The blank price range and share count in the amendment mean the market still lacks an offering size, so the $895.4 billion commitment figure may dominate early scrutiny as much as the revenue print.

What's next

Next steps are the roadshow, any further S-1 amendments and a priced range for the Nasdaq listing under the ANT ticker StockAnalysis cited. CNBC's account of the amended filing summarises the headline revenue and commitment figures.

Watch whether Anthropic amended S-1 updates trim the commitment total or clarify how much is cancellable before investors set a clearing valuation.

Until then, the filing reads as a high-growth, high-burn blueprint rather than a finished IPO prospectus.
