Tesla SpaceX merger odds have climbed fast on Kalshi. Traders there priced a merger before February 2027 at about 67% on Monday, Oct. 19, more than double the roughly 30% implied at the start of the month. Polymarket is far more cautious: as of 08:29 MSK on Oct. 20, an official announcement by Dec. 31 traded at just 16%.

What happened

Neither company has announced a deal. The jump followed a Barclays note on Wednesday, Oct. 14, that sketched how a combination could work. CNBC reported that by Friday morning the Kalshi contract for a deal before March was at 56%, up from 29%, with similar moves for April and May.

Barclays analyst Dan Levy said the case would rest on vertical integration rather than cost savings. He pointed to Tesla's Robotaxi and Optimus businesses, SpaceX's Grok and Macrohard, and the Terafab semiconductor project shared by Tesla, SpaceX and xAI. Barclays thinks a deal could be unveiled ahead of Tesla's annual meeting, due no later than Dec. 6.

Tesla's proxy materials added fuel. They show director Ira Ehrenpreis joined SpaceX's board in February, and Kimbal Musk has also served there. Tesla's $2 billion stake in xAI converted into SpaceX shares when SpaceX acquired xAI Holdings, so Tesla now owns under 1% of the rocket maker. In 2025 Tesla booked $143.3 million in revenue from SpaceX and $430.1 million from xAI.

Why it matters

The compensation angle draws the most scrutiny. A change of control would remove the 12 operational milestones attached to Elon Musk's 2025 pay award, and tranches earned on the deal price would vest immediately instead of over seven and a half to 10 years. At a $3 trillion Tesla value, three tranches covering 105.9 million shares would be earned.

The gap between venues is mostly about wording. Kalshi asks when the companies will merge, verified by news reports and SEC filings. Polymarket's contract needs an official announcement that one company is acquiring or merging with the other, including a controlling stake, by year-end. Its ladder rises to 33% by Jan. 31, 2027, and 65% by the end of 2027, so Tesla SpaceX merger odds depend heavily on the deadline.

Event contracts on corporate actions are a fast-growing niche, part of the volume surge behind Kalshi's weekly records. Regulators are also widening what can be listed, as the SEC's KPI binary options decision showed.

What's next

Tesla holds its annual meeting on Dec. 3 in Texas, and investors on the register as of Oct. 13 can vote. Before that, SpaceX posts third-quarter results after the U.S. market close on Tuesday, Oct. 20, and Tesla reports on Wednesday. Evercore ISI raised its 12-month price target on SpaceX shares by 20% to $275. CNBC notes it has a commercial relationship with Kalshi.

Any deal would need board processes at both companies, and Musk said in July a combination would have to "be done with the appropriate process." Traders can follow the Polymarket ladder for the year-end contract, where Tesla SpaceX merger odds remain well below Kalshi's.

The call

We call that Tesla and SpaceX will not officially announce a merger by Dec. 31, 2026. Polymarket prices that at 85%. Analyst speculation and proxy details are not a deal, neither company has disclosed talks, and the year-end deadline is short for a transaction that would need board processes at both companies.
