Palantir earnings preview: Wall Street now expects more than the guide
Palantir reports third-quarter results after Monday's close, with analyst consensus sitting at or above the top of the company's own revenue guidance after a record second quarter.

Few companies walk into earnings with the bar set higher than their own forecast. This Palantir earnings preview starts there: the data-analytics group reports after the bell on Monday, and analysts already expect revenue above the range management gave in August.
What happened
Palantir guided third-quarter revenue to $2.16 billion to $2.164 billion. Earnings Whispers, in an analysis published on Finviz, put consensus at $2.17 billion, while MarketBeat lists $2.18 billion. When the guidance first came out, the Street was looking for only $2.00 billion, Earnings Whispers noted, so expectations have flipped from below the range to above it.
On profits, MarketBeat shows consensus adjusted earnings of $0.4072 a share against $0.21 a year earlier; Earnings Whispers rounds it to $0.42 and reports a whisper number of $0.49. FXEmpire's weekly calendar lists the estimate at $0.41. The conference call is set for 5 p.m. ET, MarketBeat said.
The comparison base is steep. Second-quarter revenue growth hit a record 93%, U.S. commercial revenue rose 149% and U.S. commercial bookings reached $2.13 billion, according to Earnings Whispers. Management lifted 2026 revenue guidance to roughly $8.15 billion, or 82% growth.
Why it matters
Growth of about 84%, the pace implied by consensus, would be the first visible slowdown after four straight quarters of acceleration from 63%, Earnings Whispers said. A print merely in line with forecasts would therefore change the story investors have been paying for.
Costs are the second test. Management warned of a sharp rise in third-quarter expenses as it hires seasonally and spends more on product and marketing, while adjusted gross margin eased to 86% from 88% as the company absorbed cloud hosting costs for a government customer. The full-year target of about $4.89 billion in adjusted operating income gives a yardstick.
The backdrop is unforgiving for AI names. FXEmpire noted Intel fell nearly 29% on Friday and the Nasdaq Composite lost 2% last week as investors questioned whether AI spending is turning into revenue and cash flow. Our Nasdaq worst month report tracked that shift, and Apple reports the same evening, as our Apple earnings preview set out.
Palantir is also a different kind of AI stock. It sells software and services rather than chips or data-centre capacity, so a strong report could help separate AI users from AI builders in investors' minds.
On these numbers, the Palantir earnings preview hurdle is clear: revenue of at least $2.17 billion to $2.18 billion and adjusted earnings of around $0.41 to $0.42 a share.
What's next
Key items to watch include U.S. commercial growth, bookings conversion, international commercial revenue, which grew only 26% last quarter, and whether the full-year guide rises again. Earnings Whispers' pre-earnings analysis breaks down each line.
This Palantir earnings preview leaves one simple test: beat a consensus that already sits above guidance and raise again, or face questions about whether the growth curve has peaked.
MarketBeat counts six beats of consensus earnings in the last eight quarters.
