Netflix operating margin odds favor guidance before Q3 report
Polymarket traders expect Netflix to land its third-quarter operating margin inside the 32% to 34% band when it reports on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Netflix operating margin odds on Polymarket point to a quarter close to guidance. Ahead of the streamer's third-quarter report after the close on Tuesday, Oct. 20, traders priced the 32% to 34% bracket as the most likely outcome, at about 67% as of 08:31 MSK on Oct. 19, with the 34% to 36% bracket a distant second at about 32%.
What happened
The anchor is Netflix's own forecast. In its second-quarter shareholder letter, the company projected a third-quarter operating margin of 33.2%, up from 28.2% a year earlier, on revenue of about $12.86 billion, or growth of 12% (11% excluding currency moves). Netflix said its guidance is its actual internal forecast.
For the full year, Netflix guided to revenue of $51.0 billion to $51.4 billion, an operating margin of 31.5% and free cash flow of about $12.5 billion, with ad revenue roughly doubling to around $3 billion. Analysts forecast full-year revenue of $51.22 billion, Mint reported. Second-quarter free cash flow fell to $1.5 billion, partly because of higher taxes linked to the Warner Bros. termination fee, which is why cash generation is a focus this time, Mint noted.
Analysts polled by LSEG expect earnings growth of 40% from a year earlier, CNBC reported. The call is set for 4:45 p.m. ET.
Timing of costs is the swing factor. Second-quarter operating margin came in at 33.4%, slightly ahead of forecast because of expense timing, Netflix said, and content amortization grows faster in the first half of the year. Netflix operating margin odds therefore hinge less on subscriber demand than on when costs land.
Why it matters
Margin is the number the company itself treats as its main profitability metric, so it moves the stock. Shares sank more than 7% after in-line second-quarter results, and the stock has struggled after five straight reports, CNBC said.
Cost changes add uncertainty. Last week Netflix said it would cut around 1,000 jobs, about 6% of staff, and named a new chief content officer. Severance could weigh on reported expenses, while lower headcount supports later margins. Barclays analyst Kannan Venkateshwar warned that many viewers still see Netflix "as a service for library content."
Corporate earnings markets like this are a growing corner of prediction trading, which logged a record $188 billion third quarter led by Kalshi. Liquidity in each bracket is thin, though, so Netflix operating margin odds can jump on small trades.
What's next
The market resolves on the figure in Netflix's official earnings materials, and a print exactly at 34.0% would count toward the higher bracket. Investors will also look at the 2026 margin target and early commentary on 2027, along with ad revenue. Bets on company metrics are also spreading to regulated venues after the SEC cleared KPI binary options for exchange listing last week.
The call
Polymarket prices "Netflix (NFLX) Q3 operating margin 32% to 34%?" at about 67% Yes as of 08:31 MSK on Oct. 19; it settles on the operating margin in Netflix's official third-quarter earnings materials. We call Yes: Netflix will report a third-quarter 2026 operating margin of at least 32% and below 34%. Guidance of 33.2% sits in the middle of that range, and Netflix's second-quarter margin landed in line with its guidance. This is a dated record call, not investment advice.
