OpenAI Google Cloud deal puts GPT-6 models on all three big clouds
OpenAI's newest models are coming to Google's cloud and its Antigravity coding tool, making Google the only hyperscaler that offers all three leading closed model families.

An OpenAI Google Cloud deal is now live in preview. On Wednesday, Oct. 21, Google said OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna models are rolling out in private preview to select enterprise customers in its model garden, with wider availability and the Antigravity coding tool to follow.
What happened
Google described Astra as built for demanding coding, computer use and research work, Sol as near-Astra intelligence at lower cost, and Luna as a fast, cheap model for everyday tasks. Customers can call the models through Google's APIs and connect Codex command-line and desktop tools to Google's platform for inference.
Purchases go through Google Cloud Marketplace, so usage appears on a single Google invoice and draws down existing cloud commitments. The models run on dedicated Google infrastructure, and customer data stays within the customer's perimeter and is not used for training, Google said. OpenAI models are also coming to Gemini for business and to Antigravity, which already supports Gemini and Anthropic's Claude.
With the move, Google says it is the only hyperscale cloud offering all three leading closed models, alongside more than 200 first-party, partner and open models. OpenAI noted that Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner, Ars Technica reported.
Box is one early customer. "By using OpenAI models through Google Cloud, we will be able to give customers access to OpenAI's frontier AI models alongside Google Cloud's security and compliance capabilities," said Yashodha Bhavnani, Box's vice president of AI products, in Google's announcement. Zero data retention options and Confidential Compute are listed as coming soon.
Why it matters
For OpenAI, the deal widens its route to corporate customers. Less than six months ago Microsoft's exclusive license on its technology ended, and Amazon began hosting OpenAI models the next day, CNBC reported. The OpenAI Google Cloud listing now puts its models on all three of the largest U.S. clouds as it courts investors at a $1.4 trillion valuation, the subject of our OpenAI $30 billion raise report.
For Google, it is a hedge. Its cloud revenue growth sped up to about 82% in the second quarter, from 63% in the first, CNBC said, compared with 37% at Amazon and 42% at Microsoft. Hosting a rival's models keeps enterprise spending on its platform even when customers choose GPT over Gemini, whose latest version we covered in Gemini 4 Argon.
What's next
All three cloud giants report results next week, which may show how much AI demand is moving between them. Google's announcement is on its Cloud blog.
On Polymarket, which settles on the top model in the arena.ai Text Arena leaderboard, Google was priced at 52% and Anthropic at 42% to hold the best AI model at the end of November, with OpenAI at 3%, as of 08:21 MSK on Oct. 22. The OpenAI Google Cloud deal is about distribution, not that ranking.
The call
We call that OpenAI will NOT have the best AI model at the end of November 2026 under Polymarket's rules. Polymarket puts that outcome at 97%. Traders price Google and Anthropic as the two contenders, and a new distribution deal does not change benchmark standings.
