Ripple Prime RWA swaps bring Hyperliquid perps to Virtu
Ripple Prime RWA swaps give institutions such as Virtu around-the-clock exposure to more than 100 stock, commodity and FX markets built on Hyperliquid perpetuals.

Ripple Prime, the prime brokerage Ripple built on its Hidden Road acquisition, launched support on Thursday for real-world asset perpetual swaps, with market maker Virtu among the first institutional clients. The Ripple Prime RWA swaps reference more than 100 markets across equities, equity indices, ETFs, metals, energy and foreign exchange, and they settle around the clock, including weekends.
What happened
According to Ripple's announcement, the swaps are traded with Ripple Prime acting as principal and reference perpetual futures listed by Trade.xyz on Hyperliquid, the decentralized derivatives exchange. Clients can cross-margin the positions against other asset classes Ripple Prime supports and post Ripple USD, its dollar stablecoin, as collateral, CoinMarketCap reported.
"Virtu is ramping up across emerging liquidity pools," said Scotte Moegling, head of business development for digital assets at Virtu, adding that 24/7 cross-margining helps the firm expand more efficiently as markets move toward round-the-clock access. The product is available through Ripple Prime's CIV BVI license, and Ripple plans to offer it from more regions.
The Block noted that RLUSD eligibility as collateral varies by jurisdiction. Ripple bought Hidden Road for $1.25 billion last year, and Ripple Prime added support for Hyperliquid in February.
Because the reference markets trade continuously, clients can manage exposure to traditional asset classes outside the hours of the exchanges where those assets normally list, CoinMarketCap said. Ripple described Ripple Prime as built to clear trades and manage collateral and risk across traditional and digital venues around the clock.
Ripple said posting RLUSD and cross-margining gives clients a single counterparty relationship, centralized risk management and consolidated margin across their portfolios. It added that perpetual swaps let clients run more sophisticated strategies and adjust portfolios as market conditions change.
Why it matters
The Ripple Prime RWA swaps package on-chain liquidity in a wrapper that institutions already know. A fund can gain weekend exposure to stocks or oil through a single prime broker, with consolidated margin, rather than connecting directly to a decentralized exchange.
It is also a vote of confidence in Hyperliquid's real-world asset markets. Ripple said volume in RWA perpetuals has grown exponentially this year, and having a firm like Virtu trade them through a prime broker adds an institutional channel to what began as a crypto-native product.
For Ripple, the launch gives RLUSD a working role as margin collateral, a use case that can build stablecoin demand without relying on retail payments. It also positions Ripple Prime against traditional prime brokers that do not yet offer comparable weekend access.
There are trade-offs. The swaps carry counterparty exposure to Ripple Prime as principal, and the reference prices come from a decentralized venue whose depth can vary sharply by market and time of day. Institutions will want to see how those prices behave around weekend news and Monday opens before scaling up.
What's next
The next tests are adoption beyond Virtu and expansion beyond the BVI entity, which would open the product to clients in more jurisdictions. Watch also for any regulatory response to institutions trading equity-linked perpetuals outside exchange hours.
Tokenized markets have been busy this week, from DriveWealth's RLUSD settlement deal to the launch of tokenized stocks on Hyperliquid. The Ripple Prime RWA swaps put a prime broker in the middle of that trend, a role that could make on-chain markets easier for big trading firms to use.
